Will you be doing any sort of contest for box tops this year? I think previous years we were given a sheet of paper for them and I think it was a classroom thing. I've been patiently waiting to send the baggy we have with our son 🙂

Attention Parents: A rumor on social media is circulating that a weapon was found at Muscatine High School in a student’s backpack today. That is not true. Again, there were no weapons discovered at Muscatine High School.

Thank you for stomping out the fire as the flames are being thrown! 👏
But also I would prefer the students be taken care of, protected and then take the time to call 1500 parents.
How could we even trust you though🤔 you guys constantly lie to the student and don’t inform parents about anything. Mhs really needs to step up their game they can’t even protect a kid with disabilities they sure can’t protect our school.
The boys that thought it would be funny they started the rumor needs to be kick out .They scared a lot of kids and parents .This is not funny.😢
I’m really concerned about the people who don’t have technology to get these social media post. I don’t have any students at the high school so I didn’t get any email text or phone call about the situation at the high school today and from what I’m seeing the parents of high school students didn’t either. WHY is it just being posted on Facebook and not being sent out in a mass notification ?
It was Iowa city the weapon was found but thank you for putting an end to that rumor. Parents are already on edge now no need for false information
Come on, dawg. You can't be serious. You valued getting this out of the way immediately but you didn't value 1,300 lives this morning? cancelled.
But again probably could have avoided this whole mess had parents been informed before school like the administration was
Unless 1500 kids were put in individual bubbles there is no way possible to 100% prevent fights. Not 100 years ago, not 100 years from now!

RUMOR CONTROL: There is an article in the Voice of Muscatine today that states that the combined middle school next year will house 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. This is inaccurate. The combined middle school will house 7th and 8th grades. Thank you. ... See MoreSee Less

you’ll do a “rumor control” about this asap but not when there’s a threat ? 😐
Your quick responses are being noticed. Good job!
Whats going on this week in Muscatine?
Who gives two shits about this. How is the schools gonna control bullying
Good I was hoping it wasn't true

An Important Message to Our Parents:
Muscatine High School received word of an anonymous text warning of a potential shooting. Police were notified immediately. In working with the Muscatine Police Department, two students admitted that their social media post was a hoax. These students have been removed from school. The Muscatine Police Department is continuing its investigation and following up with any further leads.
Our utmost priority is to make certain we provide students a safe learning environment and to that end, we will do whatever is necessary to ensure that happens. Precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Our counselors, administration, security team, and school resource officers met this morning to make sure the building remains safe and secure. Also, additional police will be in the building and surveilling the outside of the building. ... See MoreSee Less

What parents aren’t understanding is that notifications and social media is not their number 1 concern when dealing with an issue of this importance. Their number one concern is children safety, and everyone complaining about not being notified say that’s what they should care about, yet they’re doing that and you’re still finding a way to complain.
I hope to god those kids have charges and expelled from school! Nothing less will be acceptable!
I hate to inform everyone but every day you send your child to school, there could be a shooting. Most shooters don’t announce it. So the concept “you could have kept your kids home” is not very valid. I received a text alert at 9:55am. My son also text me, advised me there was a police presence everywhere, and he was in a classroom. I told him that was the safest place to be and he went about his school day learning. There were literally police all over the school. It’s a shame this is our world but it is and every day could be a threat.
I have been seeing on here that a text and a email went out from the school, well I never received either one of those things I had to learn it from my daughter. Then trying to call the school could he threw to them. Now tell me where there priority are, to me as a parents it looks it is just the school reputation. Not the safety of our children
What took so long to notify parents? I’ve been texting my son for the last hour about this.
Thanks for the update!
Mass chaos and panic could have been avoided had this notification been sent out prior to the start of school today. My son has already been picked up since, as a parent, I had NO IDEA what was happening or if my child was in danger. With all of the school shootings across the nation, “hoax” or not, this incident should have been reported to parents as soon as it was known that the threat/danger was taken care of.
Why weren't the parents notified before school started so we as parents could decide if we wanted our kids to even be there today.
Thank you for the update.
If the text was in fact received last night, the right thing to do would be to notify parents so they could talk with their children. Instead, students were scared and the school morning chaotic with the rumors churning (was there or was there not a gun found in a backpack?). This left parents feeling helpless, uninformed, and confused. Muscatine Community School District, can you verify when the text was received, if there was a weapon found, and why you chose to update us this morning well past school drop off? I understand you don't want parents to needlessly keep their kids home, but doing it this way does not leave a lot of trust in your schools.
Get the extra security and a plan in place is important also all is important and everyone has to put there self in this one persons place that has to make this decision. So don’t be judging I’m sure they are doing there best to make sure everyone is safe.
According to all the kids I've spoken to: You guys did not go on lockdown, you did not do anything to prevent this if it was real. You did not play it safe by any means. You simply made a Facebook post. I had to text to my brother and make sure he was okay, make sure he didn't get hurt, and all you have to say for yourself is "oh it was a hoax lol the police said so"? Bullshit.
Why were parent told they knew nothing about it when they called this morning! Come on!
A post should’ve been sent out when you knew of the “hoax” so that it was our decision to send our kids or not! If you were thinking of safety that would’ve been the first obvious thing to do instead of having all of those kids at school today. I’m not saying your decisions are easy but it’s the parents decision of what is best for their child whom puts them in your hands everyday to be with for 8hrs a day
I seriously hope my identical grandsons are ok they're names are nick and Jace please let new know
Us as parents should of been notified sooner so we could make the decision to send our kids or not.
We are living in a day and age where this could be a reality.... the fact that this was an issue that presented itself LAST NIGHT.. and we are just NOW getting a response unacceptable!
Honestly the school should have closed today until they found out for sure what was going on weather it was something serious or a hoax. Sending the kids to school put them in danger when they did not know whether this was going to happen or not. Regardless parents should have been notified ahead of time period. The school did not take this seriously.
This shit is getting way to out of control the schools, state whom ever it powers that be need to give CONTROL BACK TO THE PARENTS SO WE CAN WHIP OUR CHILDREN
If you as a parent think you can do a better job then by all means run for the school board.
This is a distraction created to pull attention away from the current beating of a disabled student. Shame on whoever has done this. Punishable by law in my eyes. Prove this is a true threat.
Looks like it's time for new leadership in our schools and city.
Least they tried to "notify" parents there was some where shooting and bomb threats that they knew about and didn't say anything until after it was said was said it was going to happen or they just wouldn't say anything at all but they could call my parents to say I wasn't at school when I was
1. Take care of the children first! 2. Notify me when #1 has been taken care of.

What would we do without you???
This message was recently sent to all high school parents from Principal Terry Hogenson:
"Muscatine High School prides itself on taking a hard line on aggressive behavior. In order for a school to function, the order must be maintained. The safety of all students is paramount in our thinking, processes, and protocols.
When an aggressive act occurs, we intervene as quickly as possible. We interview all the individuals involved, involve the police if necessary, and provide appropriate consequences. If an act is egregious enough, charges are filed. No act of aggression is dismissed or accepted within the school setting.
While it is impossible to foresee all possible scenarios dealing with aggression, we work with our student body, teachers, counselors, families, and administrative team members to intervene proactively whenever possible. Predominantly, our student body conducts itself positively and displays a culture of caring and support. It is always unfortunate when isolated students make choices that impact the perception of the whole school.
I can assure all of our families and students that we will remain vigilant in our dedication to creating and maintaining a safe learning environment at Muscatine High School." ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you, to all the teachers and staff at Muscatine School District for all of your hard work, it has been a rough week for all of you, I’m sure, and just think it’s important for you to know that you are appreciated. ❤️
So this is the only thing that went out to parents? Did the School District let parents know exactly what happened? This is a great opportunity for parents and the district to be educating their kids on proper behavior towards special needs children.
I was bullied throughout much of my younger school years for the clothes I wore, the acne I had, the people I hung out with, and while I never got beat up, I dropped out of school because of all of it. But here I am years later, college graduate, no thanks to MHS, worst years of my life
Tell me why this message is circling and with this I will be taking my butt to the school and school board office.
This very principle let my son be bullied in kindergarten and hit every day of kindergarten and first grade and when I finally told this principle that my son was going to stand up for himself and start hiting back I was informed that my son would be arrested that's what this principle does about bullying nothing but he arrests or threatens the bullied
I’m sorry but this school is going to shit. 👎🏻🤷🏼♀️ started to notice it when I was there and was put in some regular classes the teachers never cared til I got into my academy family again that’s when I knew academy needs to stay
I hope so. Students shouldn’t be afraid to go to school . It should be a safe place.
Alright I'm here to shed some light. I walked your halls for four years MHS. You guys didn't give a shit about me. I was bullied and picked on. My grades suffered by it and you know what you told me to do. Drop out. You are a pathetic learning place and should be investigated for being so fucking horrible. Fire everyone on the school board cause you guys obviously still aren't doing your job.
Schools don’t do anything. I worked in one for almost 3 years and I watched it happen and when I tried to do something the teachers and principal would tell me they needed to work it out. I would tell the parents. When the cops got involved the principal would say it was never mentioned to her. I would speak up.
Very well said. And I know that it takes a community to follow up on this. I believe good will come from it.
Zero tolerance. Expelled for all the remainder of the school year. Force the parents to pay for online schooling to keep credits up. Kids want to be big shots and think they have no repercussions.
My son is getting bullied right now and all that was done is a teacher named ben made the other kid apologize no punishment what so ever.
Surrounding communities are watching how Muscatine School District handles this extremely outrageous action by one of their uncontrolled and obviously disturbed students. Parents must not be in child’s life as properly guided individuals don’t act this way. A nice lawsuit settlement should wake up a few.
Yesterday I got the opportunity to job shadow at the high school and “peak behind the curtain” and I can personally assure everyone this school is doing everything in their power to keep everyone safe.
I don't understand the people saying they don't do anything ? When I was in school if I looked the wrong way I was in trouble. There is going to be bullying all through out life. The teachers and officials can't be there all of the time. Stuff is going to happen.
Schools don't do shit for bullying. My daughter was bullied so bad that the only way anything was done is because we had to threaten them with a lawsuit. Then they wanted to switch MY DAUGHTERS classes instead of the girl bullying her. Ya, there you go. Inconvenience everyone but the one causing the issue. This was at central when Hogenson was principal. I think he's afraid to do anything to the bullies. Good luck getting anything accomplished with him in charge... I'm so glad my kids are all done with this school
Never received this message and regardless the communication between the school district and the parents is horrible.
MHS why don’t you return kwqc phone calls!!!?? You guys should be standing up supportive of this child and display how strongly you are against that. Not through this. School district is horrible here!!!
13 Reasons Why. Every student and their parents should watch this.
Amazing. This school is an actual joke. Everyone I went to when I got bullied told me to ignore the threats and rumors and jokes being spread about me and a few others simply because we were different. And a sexual harassment case on someone I know that they had VIDEO EVIDENCE on proving the claim was false. Yet they still tried to get him in trouble. This is not a 'safe environment' for children at all. Try again, school.
So after one of the many incidents that have happened at MHS, y’all NOW speak about it. You should’ve been taking bullying more seriously before and this could’ve been prevented. The victim is always the one that has to make the changes, not the bully. I’ve been told to switch classes if there was someone in there harassing me.
High school was the same for everyone, if you had money, you were at least semi popular, if your parents were poor, you were invisible or someone's punching (verbal or physical) bag.
I tell my kids to not bully anyone !! But it has to start at a young age,, I always tell them “let me find out your being a bully ” my kids know their are consequences !! But, on the other hand if someone tries to bully my kids ,, I’m front & center !! This mom don’t play around,, I will talk to teachers, principals and parents if I have too !!
Appropriate consequences... We're sorry your child is being bullied but we're going to have to completely change their schedule and disrupt their routine to accommodate the bully. Also, is she see's the bully in the hall we suggest she turn and run the other way. That should fix the problem.
This letter did little more than raise questions for me. What exactly should I be talking to my HS student about?
